Asclepieion Massage Therapy
The Art & Science of Healing Bodywork

Home

Welcome!  At Asclepieion Massage Therapy we practice "The Art & Science of Healing Bodywork."

Our emphasis is on helping you maintain a healthy body!  Our approach is centered on improving your body's natural functions.  We believe in Osteopathic principles - that the different parts of the body make up a unified whole - and that the body has a natural ability to heal. The entire body can be mobilized to help reduce pain, increase function and ease of movement.

Through effective manual therapy, massage and osteopathic manual therapy, your innate healing ability will be stimulated and maximized. With over 9 years and over 50,000 hours of clinical experience in settings that include sports and rehabilitation clinics to high-end resorts, I have had great success using these techniques to reduce chronic pain and successfully treat the following conditions:

  • Low-back pain and sciatica
  • Neck strain and trauma
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Tendinopathies (Tennis or Golfer's elbow)
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Frozen shoulder and Rotator Cuff injuries
  • TMJ Dysfunction
  • Carpal Tunnel

Part of a great therapeutic experience is finding a skilled professional therapist.  I am a licensed massage therapist (LMT) in Arizona, Colorado and Oregon, and have completed 1,000 hours of continuing education in Osteopathic Manual Practice (OMP).  I am an active member of AMTA and ABMP, massage instructor, and a former operating room nurse.

I've listed several modalities below.  I often use more than one technique in order to tailor your session to your needs.

Tools at your disposal:

Swedish Massage – This is a gentle form of massage that uses long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements to warm tissue and help relax and energize you.  Perfect for relaxation or treating anxiety, depression and insomnia.

Deep Tissue Massage – This massage technique uses slower, more-forceful strokes and targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to help muscle recover from injuries, and is more therapeutic. Great for those "trouble spots."

Sports Massage – The application of specific massage techniques for a weekend warrior or a professional athlete with the purpose of enhancing the athlete’s preparation for, recovery from, and the physical demands of training or competition.

Stretch Therapy – This treatment involves the therapist performing assisted stretching techniques with a client on a treatment table in order to increase range of motion, facilitate relaxation and enhance performance. Regular assisted stretching increases flexibility and improves mobility, leading to better performance.

European-style Manual Osteopathy – Manual Osteopathy - including craniolsacral therapy and visceral manipulation - is a gentle, non-invasive manual therapy that focuses on total body health by treating and strengthening the musculoskeletal framework, which includes the joints, muscles and the spine.

Anti-inflammatory Cannabis Massage – Our cannabis infused cream, with anti-inflammatory plant extracts of peppermint, juniper and arnica, can provide fast acting relief from pain and inflammation and is perfect for use on sore muscles and swollen joints. This is a great treatment for arthritis pain and aching muscles.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) – This is a type of massage that encourages the natural drainage of the lymphatic fluid, which carries waste products, away from the tissues back toward the heart. Pioneered by Drs. Emil and Estrid Vodder in the 1930s, it was used for the treatment of chronic sinusitis and other immune disorders.  I have completed the Norton certification training and have and great success in helping clients deal with their lymphedema.

Hydrotherapy, Graston or Gua Sha, cupping, aromatherapy and elastic therapeutic (KT) taping are also available at no extra charge and are considered part of your treatment services.  We'll use all of the techniques available to us, so you can reach your health goals!

*BTW, what's up with that name?

In ancient Greece and Rome, the Asclepieion (ass-klep-ee-un) were healing temples sacred to the god Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine. These healing temples were a place where people would visit to receive treatment or some sort of healing. Pilgrims usually slept overnight and reported their dreams to a priest the following day. The priests prescribed various therapies which included fasting, meditation, hypnosis, chanting, visits to the baths or gymnasium, and massage. These temples included carefully controlled spaces conducive to healing, and the attendants at the temples were known as “Therapeutae,” meaning “to serve, or heal” which is the root for the modern-day word, therapist. The rod of Asclepius, a staff with one entwined snake, remains a symbol of medicine today.
